Our Staff

Ken Childers, Senior Pastor

Bio: I was raised in a christian home in Iredell County, near Statesville, NC. At the age of 12, I accepted Christ as my Saviour and joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. After graduation from high school, I worked on my family's farm, while also working other places as well.
      For some time I had felt God was calling me into full time christian service. At age 20, I accepted Gods call into the ministry, and began preparing by enrolling at Wingate Jr. College, (now university.) After graduation from Wingate I transferred to Campbell College, (now university) and received a B.A. degree in Religion, I later received a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. While I was a student at Campbell, I married Sarah Lawrence. We have 5 adopted children, who are now grown and 9 grandchildren. 
      I have served churches in N.C. as Youth Minister, Associate Pastor, and Senior Pastor. My family and I served as foreign missionaries to Costa Rica from 1981-1988. Following that, I was Director of Missions for the Beulah Baptist Association for almost 18 years; from there I came to my present position as pastor of Gateway Baptist Church of Timberlake Inc. 

Jimmy, Becky, and Hayleigh Parker, Youth Pastor

Bio: Becky and I have been married for over 3 years now and my love for her grows everyday! We have a beautiful baby girl named Hayleigh and she dominates any spare time that we have left. If you would look up the definition of a sports nut, you would find my name beside it. I am a die hard UNC fan, Redskins fan, Yankees fan, and Jeff Burton fan. Besides watching sports, disc golf is up at the top of my list of activities as well. I love Third Day, tobyMac, Skillet, and most any other group that glorify God with their talents. I am currently a Sophomore at Liberty University pursuing my BS: Religion. Becky and I both have a heart for students. We both believe that students are underestimated and are an invaluable part of the Body of Christ aka the Church. Our sole purpose here is to make the name of Jesus famous with today's young people and foster them into being discples of Christ.

Mike & Molly Pearce, Children's Director

Bio: We have been married for 6 wonderful and fulfilled years. We love children and being "big kids" ourselves. Our favorite place to eat is Shorty's Hotdogs in Wake Forest and we love to be scared on the Haunted Ghost Walk in Wilmington.
